Expert Witness & Advisory

Advisory services for dispute resolution and criminal matters

Our team of expert witness and advisory specialists provide services in relation to dispute resolution and criminal matters. Whilst we receive instructions on large-scale matters, where issues in dispute are valued in the hundreds of millions and billions of pounds, our fee structure means that we can work cost effectively on small matters with the quantity being in the low hundreds of thousands.

We are an experienced, credible and highly regarded team. Our senior members have acted as expert witnesses in hundreds of UK and international disputes, across a wide range of industries. Our experience encompasses cases heard in the UK civil courts, criminal courts and the Lands Tribunal, overseas courts and arbitrations (in both the UK and overseas). Whilst most of our instructions are on a party basis, our experts have also regularly acted as single joint experts (SJE).

Whilst we will always try to assist those instructing us as far as we are able to, even if that is informal advice about potential weaknesses in a client’s case identified during our work, we are also always conscious of our responsibilities as expert witnesses, including our ultimate duty being to the court.

Our reports are written to be clear as well as readily comprehensible, and we seek to present complex financial matters in an accessible manner. If matters do progress to court, you can be assured that all our expert witnesses have previously given evidence under cross-examination on numerous occasions. Individuals have been praised by both judges and leading counsel for the clarity of their oral opinions.

Our expert witness and advisory specialists also regularly provide legal support as expert advisers on disputes outside of a formal expert witness instruction. We assist clients in formulating and defending claims (for example, where a court has not permitted expert evidence) and we provide shadow expert advice (where an SJE has been appointed and where independent scrutiny of their work is required). Where we are not instructed on an expert witness basis, we will consider undertaking matters on a contingent or semi-contingent basis.

In addition, our team also accept appointments as an expert determiner, including appointments under the ICAEW President’s Appointment Scheme, typically involving valuations of companies, shareholdings or disputes arising following the sale of businesses.
