Specialist expertise

Gavin is a forensic accountant and expert witness with more than 20 years' experience who prides himself on offering a partner-led, commercial and price competitive approach to instructions. He has been instructed in numerous cases in the UK, Europe, North America, Asia and Africa, with quantum ranging from the low thousands to billions of pounds. A large proportion of the cases he is instructed in require him to value companies or shareholdings.

He is primarily instructed by legal referrers to act as expert accountant in civil and criminal matters (including private criminal prosecutions) in various Courts and Tribunals, usually as party expert, but also as single joint expert and has given evidence under cross-examination on more than 25 occasions. In addition, Gavin regularly acts as party advisor in disputes outside of a formal expert witness instruction. He also has experience in undertaking expert determinations (and advising parties in determinations), including under the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) President’s Appointment Scheme.

He also regularly undertakes forensic investigations directly for corporate and public sector entities, as well as part of expert witness instructions.

Gavin regularly gives presentations to lawyers and other professionals and contributes to both mass media and specialist publications on issues relevant to forensic accounting and acting as an expert witness.

About Gavin

Gavin is a fellow of the ICAEW, a member of The Academy of Experts and an ICAEW accredited forensic accountant. He also held the position of chair of the ICAEW's Forensic Accounting and Expert Witness Group between 2015 and 2018 (having been vice Chair since 2011). Prior to joining Quantuma, Gavin held a number of partner roles at mid-tier firms.

Gavin is married with a daughter and lives on the Kent borders. Outside of work, his time is mainly spent enjoying fine wine and drinks, as well as long-haul travel or relaxing in his hot tub.
