Specialist expertise

Mark is a personal insolvency specialist; his expertise include corporate contentious insolvencies and debt recovery on behalf of creditors.

Mark is the national head of personal insolvency with over 30 years of experience in the insolvency profession. He leads a centre of excellence based in Brighton and brings his experience to bear on corporate contentious insolvencies.

Mark works with creditors to identify how best to recover their debts from insolvent individuals and companies, especially where assets have been hidden or moved beyond their reach. Where necessary, he will lead court actions. However, he tends to focus on building the strongest case first to avoid litigation and reach settlements which benefit creditors. He also acts for debtors where he uses his experience of acting for creditors to guide them through negotiations with their creditors.

Mark recently managed the sale of a development plot in Docklands to a residential developer with overage payments based on planning obtained for a 20-story tower. Many of the cases he has handled over the years have been reported on, including Sands v. Clitheroe, where the transfer of the family home some 20 years before bankruptcy was successfully challenged. He also handled a complex bankruptcy involving the successful challenge of a Deed of Trust as a sham, and managed individual voluntary arrangements of 12 equity partners in an insolvent legal practice.

About Mark

Mark is a licenced insolvency practitioner and holds the Joint Insolvency Examination Board qualification. He is also a fellow of the Insolvency Practitioners Association (IPA), a fellow of the Association of Business Recovery Professionals and past president of the IPA and chair of the R3 Personal Insolvency Committee.

Mark has worked in the insolvency profession throughout his whole career. After working for three full-service international accountancy practices, during which he gained a wide range of experience covering all forms of insolvencies, latterly specialising in personal and contentious insolvencies, Mark joined Quantuma in 2017 to head up their personal insolvency centre of excellence.

As a keen philatelist, Mark spends his many holidays supporting the post offices of the world by sending postcards – a record 41 on a recent trip! Mark is a great fan of Spike Milligan (he owns all six of his war diary trilogy) but his colleagues find that his jokes are not quite up to Spike’s standard.
