Malcolm is a director in the restructuring team in London. He has over 20 years’ experience providing a range of services, including: undertaking independent business reviews; strategic reviews; cash flow reviews; options reviews and contingency planning; as well as formal insolvency work.

His focus is on providing practical advice and fully evaluated recommendations to stakeholders. The four years he spent in the high-risk department of the Clydesdale Bank were invaluable, as he is ideally placed to advise and assist in negotiating covenant re-sets, conditions for injecting new monies and extensions to existing facilities.

Malcolm’s work is extremely varied and his recent assignments have included: the negotiation of a three-month capital repayment holiday with 11 lenders on behalf of a company with a turnover in excess of £90 million per annum; the restructuring of a bridging loan business; and a review of a well-known agri-business for a syndicate of lenders. The review highlighted a number of failings in management and management information.

In addition, Malcolm has worked on an assignment which involved him having to review a food court operator, thus identifying fundamental errors in the accounting systems and an overstatement of profitability, which ultimately led to the demise of the business. He also helped a computer games distributor prepare a business plan to obtain additional finance. He also successfully executed the sale of a complex hotel group safeguarding 5,000 jobs and providing an improved return for the lender group. This involved project managing a number of workstreams, liaising with management and negotiating with third-party operators to acquire non-core hotels. He has also reviewed several legal practices.

Malcom is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and is Joint Insolvency Examination Board qualified. Prior to joining Quantuma in 2015, Malcom worked for a number of mid-tier accountancy firms in the UK and Australia before joining the Clydesdale Bank.

Malcolm’s personal interests include playing cricket, cycling, attending Formula 1 Grand Prix and travel.
