Brian is a restructuring specialist; his expertise includes advising businesses who have found themselves in difficult financial situations and identifying solutions to help businesses reach an appropriate agreement. His sector experience includes manufacturing, retail, property development and real estate.

Brian is a managing director in the firm’s restructuring team and is also an integral part of the London office management team. He is an appointment-taking insolvency practitioner and has been advising the management and stakeholders of owner-managed mid-market businesses for over 10 years. He has extensive experience of working with a large number of individuals and businesses across a wide range of industry sectors, including manufacturing, retail, property development and real estate. He also advises clients facing short-term and historic tax issues.

Brian is the firm’s leading adviser on tax planning schemes, which have been subject to greater HMRC scrutiny recently. He also regularly advises businesses on how to manage the financial uncertainty caused by their receiving follower notices and accelerated payment notices (APNs), and is a regular on the speaking circuit; for which he is widely quoted on in the press.

Brian’s clients benefit from his technical knowledge and insight, notably in matters relating to tax. He is widely regarded for his ability to identify solutions, negotiate and achieve settlement agreements. He recently negotiated a settlement on behalf of a UK client who had utilised tax planning schemes on APNs in excess of £800,000 and were being pursued by HMRC’s Counter Avoidance Team. Brian also advised a major UK retailer on a company voluntary arrangement proposal, secured overwhelming support for it and enabled the chain to implement its turnaround strategy.

About Brian

Brian holds the Joint Insolvency Examination Board accreditation. He is a member of the Insolvency Practitioners Association, a fellow of the Association of Business Restructuring Professionals, a member of INSOL International, a member of the Institute of Leadership and Management, a member of the Chartered Institute of Credit Management, and a master of the Institute of Sales Management.

Brian joined Quantuma from a mid-tier UK accountancy practice, where he was a senior manager in the restructuring team. Prior to this, he spent a number of years in the commercial finance, asset-based lending and trade credit insurance business sectors.

Outside of work Brian volunteers as community mediator. In his spare time, he enjoys live events and sports, is an avid follower of Chelsea FC and London Irish RFC and can often be found walking his dog, whose name is Ice.
