SilkFred does not have enough money to be able to pay all its debts. The Joint Administrators have therefore been appointed over it to ensure that all people owed money are treated fairly and equally in accordance with the law.
SilkFred has now stopped taking orders and will not be able to process returns, so please do not send any unwanted items.
SilkFred does not have money to repay customers who are owed refunds. See FAQs for further information.
If you have paid by credit or debit card, you may be eligible to claim a repayment from your card provider. You will need to contact your card provider directly to start this process.
If you purchased items over £100, you should ask for your money back under Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act. You should contact your card provider directly to find out if you are eligible for a refund.
The Joint Administrators’ function is generally to act in the interest of the Company’s creditors as a whole, and this must be done as quickly and efficiently as is reasonably practicable. The Joint Administrators will contact all affected parties in due course.
FAQs:
What shall I do if I am owed money for a refund?
As a result of the Administration, it is not possible to make any further refunds.
Anybody owed money by SilkFred is called a ‘creditor’ and you will rank as an ‘unsecured creditor’ in the Administration. Creditor claims will be dealt with as set out in a legal order of priority but unfortunately based on current information there will not be sufficient funds to make any payments to unsecured creditors.
If you paid by credit card and/or you are owed more than £100 please see ‘can I get my money back from my credit card’ below.
What shall I do if I have placed an order that I haven't received yet?
SilkFred has now stopped trading and no further orders will be sent out. We will be contacting the company that processed card payments and hope to issue refunds to customers whose items have not yet been despatched for money it is still holding, however this may not be possible in all circumstances.
Unfortunately if they are unable to process a refund for you then it will not be possible to obtain a refund from SilkFred.
The money owed to you will be a claim in the Administration but unfortunately there is unlikely to be any money to be paid out, see ‘I am owed money for a refund’ above.
What is an administration and what happens now?
An administration is a legal process in which an administrator is appointed to take control of the Company and to manage its affairs. The administrator must be a licenced insolvency practitioner.
The administration protects the Company from the people it owes money to being able to take legal action against it.
The Company does not have enough money to be able to continue trading and staff have now been made redundant.
The Joint Administrators will seek a buyer for the Company’s assets which will include the website and any remaining stock. Further detail in this regard will be provided in the Joint Administrators proposals which will be issued in the next 8 weeks.
What shall I do if I have an item that I don't want and need to return it?
Returns are not currently possible. Any returns sent back will not be able to be processed and it will not be possible to obtain a refund from SilkFred. Please do not return any goods as they be irretrievable.
Can I get my money back from my credit card?
If you have paid by credit or debit card, you may be eligible to claim a repayment from your card provider.
If you paid with a credit card and you are owed more than £100, you should ask for your money back under Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act.
You should contact your card provider directly to find out if you are eligible for a refund.
What about a gift card/voucher, will that be honoured?
As above SilkFred has ceased to trade so it will not be possible to honour any gift cards or vouchers.
Please see the section ‘I am owed money for a refund’.
Where can I find out more about my rights to a refund?
You may find some usefu information through the linke below:
How do I submit my claim in the administration?
If you have received correspondence directly from the Joint Administrations as you are owed money, you are listed as a creditor of SilkFred and there is no need for you to do anything further.
There is no need for you to submit a proof of debt form to the administration if your claim is £1,000 or less. These “small” claims will automatically be treated as proved by the Joint Administrators under rule 14.29 of The Insolvency (England and Wales) Rules 2016 in the event that there are sufficient funds to make payments to creditors.
However, please note based on current information there is unlikely to be a payment to creditors from the administration.
If you are owed over £1,000 you can submit a proof of debt in the administration, however as we do not currently believe there will be money to be paid to unsecured creditors, there is no need to submit one at this stage. If the situation changes and we do require you to submit further information, we will contact you directly. Please be advised we will not be reviewing or confirming receipt of claims at this time.
What should I do if I am a brand partner of SilkFred?
If you are a brand partner owed money by SilkFred you will rank as an unsecured creditor of the Company, as detailed above.
The Joint Administrators’ are in the process of writing to all brand partners that are owed money by SilkFred, if you do not receive correspondence and believe you should have or have any further queries please contact SilkFred@Quantuma.com
Arrangements are being made to allow you access to the brand portal so you can review your financial reports.
Can I expect to receive any amount back from the administration?
Unfortunately, based on current information it looks unlikely that there will be sufficient asset realisations to allow a distribution to unsecured creditors. However, as detailed above the administration is at a very early stage and further updates will be issued to creditors in line with the reporting requirements.
What should I do if I haven’t received any correspondence from the Joint Administrators, but I am owed money by the company?
Please email your full name, address and proof of amount owed to silkfred@quantuma.com so you can be added to the creditors list and receive all of the relevant information and correspondence.
I was not told SilkFred was ceasing to trade, why?
The Joint Administrators were only provided with customers’ contact information once formally appointed. Therefore, it was not possible for us to make you aware of SilkFred’s intentions in advance. We apologise for the inconvenience caused.
What is the status of the administration and when can I expect a more general update?
It is very early on in the Administration, but the Administrators are required to produce their proposals for their future strategy within 8 weeks of their appointment – by 24 December 2025. These proposals will also provide information regarding the financial status of the Company.
The Joint Administrators are further obliged to provide a detailed progress report to creditors of the Company every 6 months. The first report will cover the six-month period from 29 October 2025 and will be issued no later than 28 May 2026.
These reports and other communication will be uploaded to Quantuma’s dedicated online portal, to which creditors will shortly be provided log-in details, in order to register for update notifications.
What information is included in the Administrators progress report?
The progress report will include the following information:
- A general update on the status of the Administration, steps taken to date and further work that needs to be undertaken
- An update on the Joint Administrators’ attempts to achieve a sale of the Company’s assets.
- Progress made in respect of the Joint Administrators’ investigation into the affairs of the Company in the lead up to the Administration
- An update on the current and estimated future costs of the Administration process.
When will the administration end?
The Administration is currently due to end automatically on 28 October 2026 as this will be 12 months from the date of the appointment of the Joint Administrators. This period can be extended with consent of the creditors for up to 12 months or longer by application to the court.
How can I contact the Administrators?
We anticipate that there will be a high volume of queries from customers and therefore, if we believe your query is dealt with by these FAQs, then we will not be responding directly to emails.
If you submit a proof of debt form to the Administrators, then we will not be able to confirm receipt.
If you have a query that is not answered by the FAQs then please contact us at SilkFred@Quantuma.com
