This extremely powerful new functionality, using Generative AI, enables users to simply ask open questions about their clients’ data and get robust and reliable answers.
This ‘natural language’ searching means that systems will provide answers in sentences, bullet points or lists, with a summary (in addition single large documents can be summarised).
Our eDiscovery service
We established our eDiscovery service in 2021 to meet the increased demand for electronic investigations from the legal sector.
Since then, we have supported legal professionals in a variety of cases including litigation, regulatory, investigations, arbitration, employment and insolvency.
Most disputes today require thousands of electronic documents and emails to be reviewed and assessed before disclosure to opposing counsel. This new functionality however has wide-ranging benefits in that it allows our clients to find relevant information and evidence faster.
The benefits
This new generative AI allows the user to simply ‘ask a question’ of a dataset, which, in turn, will:
- Save time in the initial information gathering phase and getting to the important points
- Give the user additional searching power where keywords alone may not be sufficient
- Enable summary answers to be received immediately, in an easy-to-read natural language, rather than having to compile them after first pass relevance review has been carried out.
There are major benefits in the use of ‘Ask AI’ at the beginning of a matter. A user can simply type the initial issues of the case into the platform and test out theories or quickly ascertain the correct position and direction of the case.
Experience shows that this naturally leads to further avenues of investigation, culminating in more granular searches and a faster understanding of the issues at hand.
Also, towards the end of the review process, the tool can be used as a quality control stream to further ensure all avenues have been explored.
What some of our early adopting clients have said about our enhanced eDiscovery capability
“The ability to test out our issues and get a feel for the client data, right at the start, is invaluable… it doesn’t replace review, it just gives us information faster.”
Litigation Partner, Global law firm, UK (London)
“We anticipate this being the standard on all our cases, it’s the perfect way to augment our other searches, and ensure we are looking in the right place.”
Head of Litigation, Offshore law firm, Cayman Island
“The ability to cross-reference the AI summary with the documents used to create them is crucial, it also allows us to check for agreement with what we think we already know.”
Litigation Partner, US Headquartered law firm, Singapore
“We always have keyword searching taking place at the same time as other workstreams, and this is an excellent way to further supplement our workflow, but faster.”
Head of Litigation, Global law firm, United Arab Emirates
Summary
In summary, this new functionality will allow users to:
- Test out initial ‘issues’ immediately
- Ask open questions first – no need to guess at keywords
- Find specific content, not just a list of documents
- Rapidly learn more about the case and get straight to the answers required
- Save time in the initial information gathering phase
