In the challenging economic and retail climate since the financial collapse in 2008 (and in previous recessions), Quantuma has developed significant experience in the retail sector. We have acted in many assignments, both formal and informal, including involvement with a multi-site fashion chain, a chain of confectionery shops, carpet retailers and a discount store chain.
We are all too aware of the specific challenges facing retailers (particularly on the high street) including increasing rents, payroll costs and ever expanding demand for the convenience of online shopping from consumers. The payroll burden is now further strained since the implementation of the natioanl living wage in April 2016. Working with retail management we have been able to lead restructuring assignments in this sector by dealing with all appropriate stakeholders, particularly landlords and suppliers.
Our skilled retail specialists are able to lead retailling assignments from start to finish, and if appropriate trade-retail businesses in administration with a view to achieving the best outcome for creditors. This presents its own challenges, particularly since the Gamestation decision which stated that insolvency practitioners must pay rent as an expense of the administration during the period they are in occupation of the premises, however with Quantuma’s inclusive stakeholder driven approach and extensive property contacts this can be achieved, where necessary.
